Plums (President, Mirabelle, Claude Reine & Red)

At Turnips we have a variety of plums to suit your taste buds:

Present plums: these blueish/purple plums are notable for their very large size, which can be eaten fresh & has many culinary uses which has given rise to it’s rapid popularity.

Mirabelle plums: Small & sweet, these type of plums are most commonly grown in the Lorraine region of France, their high sugar content make them ideal for a variety of jams, jellies, baked products, and fruit brandy.

Reine Claude plums: A self-fertile variety producing very sweet, fairly large yellow gage plums which initially have pink-and-yellow skin, eventually turning reddish-purple colour. A popular plum that can be used for cooking.

Red Plums: As well as the great choices above, we also have the standard round red plums, which has thin smooth skin. The flesh can also be red or yellow and carries a sweet flavor with slightly sour overtones.

Discovery Apples

These beauties are one of the most popular English early apples. the flavour is acidic rather than sweet and has a hint of strawberry flavour, although this is very variable. The colours are a fresh yellow-green, usually with dark red patches where the sun has caught it. They have a reasonable shelf-life - perhaps a week or so.
