The stands here at Turnips have turned every shade of red with nectarines, tomatoes, watermelon and cherries as well as the many varieties of plum that are at their very best right now. By working with the experts from the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale Farm in Kent, we have sourced a wide selection of this week’s harvest, allowing you to choose just the right variety for your compote, tagine or fruit bowl. Helping you make that decision and to tell us more about what they are doing down in Faversham, we are excited to be welcoming some of our friends from Brogdale to the stall at Borough this week, so why not pop in to find out about everything fruit?
We love to bring you the best of what’s growing locally, but sometimes our search for World Class produce grown in the ideal conditions takes us just that little bit further afield. So we look to Lorraine in Northern France to provide us with it’s local speciality – the Mirabelle, that tiny, golden plum which makes the season’s perfect jam or tart.
Talking of local specialities, back at Brogdale they’re just beginning to pick Kent’s finest, and we’ve got our hands on the first of the crop…
