Ile de Ré New Potatoes and our very French Weekend

This very french of weekends was no different at Turnips with the arrival of some fantastic produce from all over France. New Fresh herbs and Lautrec Garlics, Muskat pumpkins as well as the infamous Ile de Ré new potato.

This  new potato appears on the island of Ile de Ré  on the west coast of France at the beginning of Spring. Like Jerseys Royals it’s unique flavour, with its strong taste of the seaside and crumbly sweet flesh, makes it justly sought after and appreciated. So much so that it is the only potato in France granted Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée as a sign of its uniqueness and quality.
